KUWAIT, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Kuwait's Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah has affirmed resolve to spare no effort for lifting the unjust ban by the International Olympic Committee on the national sports.
Sheikh Fahad, in a statement on his participation in the conference of Arab Olympic unions' chairmen, due in the Moroccan capital Rabat, later today, affirmed that the Kuwaiti teams and athletes could compete with other Arab teams and champions, under umbrella of the Arab Sports Federation (ASF).
Arab sports unions are not subject to international federations' jurisdictions.
Elaborating, Sheikh Fahad said he held talks on this issue on sidelines of the conference with ASF General Secretary Saud Bin-Ali Bin Alabdul-Aziz, Chairman of the Arab Boxing Federation Yousef Al-Kathem and Chairman of the Arab and African triathlon federations, Ahmad Nasser.
The Kuwait Olympic Committee affirms that the Kuwaiti Government is the prime supporter of the national sports federations and clubs; with money, installations, administrative and technical facilities. However, the Government does not meddle in their organizational and electoral affairs.
He re-affirmed that the national Olympic Committee will exert all possible efforts to lift the Kuwaiti sports suspension.
Sheikh Fahad also indicated that he would address the conference about the international ban on the Kuwaiti sports which deprived the athletes and teams of taking part in international tournaments under Kuwait Flag. He will refute the claims about Government's intervention in the sports affairs or contradictions of the Kuwaiti sports regulations with the international Olympic Charter. (end) fsa.rk
