Turkey arrests 101 illegal Syrian immigrants

ANKARA, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Turkey said Saturday security authorities arrested 101 Syrian immigrants, including 20 children, while attempting to illegally travel to Cyprus through the southern Turkish city of Marsin.
Security authorities received information about a boat carrying a group of Syrians off the town of Aydincik in Marsin, which overlooks the Mediterranean, Anadolu news agency quoted security sources as saying.
The authorities rushed to the boat and arrested the Syrians, they said.
The Aegean Sea witnessed a growing number of illegal immigrants who wanted to reach Greece from Turkey. Turkey arrested 3,300 illegal immigrants last month.
However, illegal immigration to Europe dove by 90 percent after the EU-Turkish agreement, which organized the flow of illegal immigrants on both sides. (end) rs.bs
