OPCW-UN joint mechanism submits 4th report to UNSC

NEW YORK, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the UN's joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) have submitted the fourth report to the UN Security Council, confirming the use of chemical weapons against Syrians.
The UN announced that the OPCW-UN JIM is expecting to consider the report on Thursday October 27th.
The report provides assessments and conclusions on the three pending cases, namely Kafr Zita (April 18 2014), Qmenas (March 16 2015) and Finnish (March 24 2015).
The UN Spokesperson told reporters that the report also includes overall comments regarding the assessments of the nine cases the Mechanism had investigated.
The report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 2235, by which the Council established the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)-United Nations Joint Investigative Mechanism with a mandate to identify to the greatest extent feasible individuals, entities, groups or Governments who were perpetrators, organizers, sponsors or otherwise involved in the use of chemicals as weapons, including chlorine or any other toxic chemical, in Syria where the OPCW fact-finding mission determined or had determined that a specific incident in the country had involved or had likely involved the use of chemicals as weapons.
