ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Seventeen people, including a senior police official, have been killed during a clash and roadside bombing in Afghanistanآ’s northwestern Jawzjan province, said officials on Saturday.
Provincial police spokesman Mohammad Reza Ghafori said that Taliban rebels attacked Afghan forces in Kokuldash village of Faizabad district. He claimed that 17 people including 11 Taliban rebels were killed and 10 others wounded in the counter attack.
He further said that police chief of Mangjak district, Allah Quli was also among the killed.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed capturing five security posts in the area. He claimed that the district police chief along with six security forces was killed in the ambush. He confirmed death of two rebels only.
The clashes came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan after rejecting peace dialogue offer by Afghan government. (end)
