Indian forces kill seven Pakistan Rangers, one militant

NEW DELHI, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) said on Friday evening that they killed seven Pakistan Rangers and one militant in retaliation for a Pakistani cross-border shelling.
Quoting a BSF spokesperson, the Press Trust of India said that seven Pakistani Rangers were killed and three others injured as the BSF retaliated in Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts in the disputed north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
"There is confirmed information of the killing of seven Pak Rangers and serious injury to three others," the spokesperson said.
"One of its brave constable -- got seriously injured when Pakistan targeted a BSF post at Bobiya in Hiranagar sector," the spokesperson pointed out.
The agency further said that Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the security situation along the border in Jammu and Kashmir following the killing of seven Pakistani troopers while retaliating to a ceasefire violation and discussed the situation with Director General of BSF K. K. Sharma.
According to Indian sources, the BSF had killed a militant while preventing an infiltration bid in Hiransagar last night.
The Pakistani border security forces resorted to firing on Friday morning and targeted a BSF post in the same area where an Indian soldier was critically injured inviting strong retaliation from the Indian side.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, a claim which Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom.
Recurring violence in Kashmir has claimed thousands of lives mainly that of civilians. (end) atk.gb
