473 IS militants killed during fight for Mosul - Iraqi army

BAGHDAD, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- The command of the joint operations in Iraq said Friday that the death toll of the so-called Islamic State (IS) terrorists has topped 473 since the start of the operation to liberate Mosul city on October 17.
The Iraqi forces destroyed 95 booby-trapped vehicles and motorbikes, 21 mortar launchers and three tunnels that were prepared by the IS militants to hinder the advancing troops, according to a statement by the command.
The explosive experts managed also to defuse seven explosive belts, four mined homes and 352 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and seized 1.5 tons of ammonium nitrate - a chemical compound used in the making of IEDs, the statement added. (end) ahh.gb
