BEIRUT, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- While acquiring bread in normal circumstances would require a short trip to the nearest supermarket and local bakery, the process is much more complicated for your regular Syrian refugee.
Most Syrian refugees in Lebanon find it very difficult to obtain a pack of bread which consists of usually seven pieces and cost around USD one.
Knowing this fact, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) made its mission to provide some 45 million loaves to Syrian refugees in Lebanon. KRCS cooperated with local bakeries near refugee camps to make it possible for Syrian refugees to obtain this essential food material.
Speaking to KUNA on separate accounts, many Syrian refugees expressed their gratitude to the leadership and people of Kuwait for this generous humanitarian gesture.
"This is the third year in which this project helped us survive," Ahlam Saeed, a Syrian refugee and a mother of seven, told KUNA.
She thanked the KRCS for this outstanding initiative and said that it was not strange that Kuwait offered this kind of help to the Syrian refugees suffering from an ongoing cruel war.
Similarly, a father of four children, Ayman Atah said that the KRCS project helped him and his family through difficult times since the conflicted began in 2011. He thanked Kuwaitis for their continuous help and hoped that matters would get better for the refugees.
On his part, coordinator at the Lebanon Red Cross Youssef Boutros affirmed that the KRCS had made the lives of Syrian refugees a bit less sufferable by providing this essential foodstuff.
He lauded the Kuwaiti side for always taking the initiative to cover the needs of the Syrian refugees.
