Kuwait-financed school opens in southern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Iraq's Ministry of Education inaugurated on Thursday a new Kuwait-finance school in the southern Al-Muthana Province.
The school, financed by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), was built on an area of 4,645 square meters and cost USD 3.3 million.
"This generous gesture from Kuwait would help fill the huge gap in schools," Director of the Cultural Relations Department at the Iraqi Ministry Hasanein Moala told KUNA on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, expressing gratitude to Kuwaiti leadership and people.
He elaborated that "this is the 21st school out of 23 schools which Kuwait promised to build in Iraq at a total cost of USD 59.6 million.
The remaining two schools would be opened in January and June 2017 respectively, he said.
For his part, Kuwait Ambassador in Baghdad Salem Al-Zamanan, who attended the inauguration, reiterated Kuwait's commitment to offer all required support to Iraqi government to alleviate the suffering and meet the basic needs of Iraqi people.
Last week, Kuwait distributed school bags and stationaries to displaced students in northern and southern provinces and would distribute food baskets to displaced people in Baghdad next week, Al-Zamanan said. (end) ahh.maa.ibi
