US soldier dies in blast in N. Iraq - Pentagon

WASHINGTON, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- A US soldier was killed in a blast in northern Iraq, the Pentagon said Thursday.
The service member had succumbed to his wounds resulting from an improvised explosive device, Operation Inherent Resolve said in a statement.
No further information was provided, however, US media quoted officials as saying that the incident occurred "near Mosul." The casualty is the fourth for US forces since the start of the global operation to defeat the So-Called Islamic State (IS) group.
It is also the first since the start of the offensive to recapture the group's de-facto capital and Iraq's second largest city of Mosul which started three days ago. (end) sd.mb
