ABU DHABI, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Director General of Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) Sheikh Youssef Abdullah Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah has affirmed his country's keenness on raising efficiency of marine management and other maritime services.
The KPA chief, in remarks to KUNA after participating in the 10th International Standard for Maritime Pilot Organizations (ISPO) Conference which concluded late Wednesday, said the conferees examined international innovations in developing marine pilots' skills.
The ISPO Conference is a "great platform" for pilotage organizations to further examine concepts and techniques for improving their standards and upgrade their pilotage services, he said.
"We are at threshold of developing the Kuwaiti ports in line with the (national) development plan; with installment of modern systems including smart ports systems," he added.
For his part, Director of Marine Operations Department in Shuwaikh Port, Captain Bader Al-Enezi, in remarks to KUNA stressed on Kuwait's keenness to participate in the ISPO conferences for better insight into its standards.
The ISPO is a standard of best practices for pilots and pilot organizations, improving safety and quality, providing self-regulation and transparency in pilotage standards to all port related stakeholders.
Marine or maritime pilot is a mariner who maneuvers ships through dangerous or congested waters, as well as harbors or river mouths. Most ports have compulsory pilotage. (end) bs.haq
