KUWAIT, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- The Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAF) plans to establish two companies - Al-Wafra and Al-Abdali - to help Kuwaiti farmers sell their products, PAAF Director General Faisal Al-Hasawi said Monday.
PAAF is fully behind the Kuwaiti farmers, Al-Hasawi told a news conference after a meeting with the Kuwait Farmers Union officials.
PAAF is committed to the UN Food and Agriculture (FAO) agreement, which it signed last January, that encouraged the setting up of companies supporting the Kuwaiti farmers, and sell their products with reasonable prices, he said.
"The authority is standing by the Kuwaiti farmer in all circumstances in order to find suitable solutions that guarantee stability for farmer," said Al-Hasawi.
The facilities offered by PAAF, he added, contributed to boosting food security.
Hadi Al-Watri, Kuwait Farmers Union President, said the farmers encountered problems following the rise in fuel prices which was thus affecting the end price of the product.
He called for the formation of the parliament's agriculture committee to preserve rights of farmers. (end) mf.bs
