RIYADH, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) health ministerial committee, in its third meeting on Thursday, has issued an executive decision to ensure healthcare equality amongst GCC citizens.
In a statement to the press after the meeting, Kuwait's Health Minister Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi said that the GCC health ministers conversed about a number of issues germane to healthcare in GCC nations.
Moreover, he underscored the importance of such meetings to bolster joint work that bodes well for GCC nationals, adding that a strategy to implement decisions that cater to the youth was also discussed.
The meeting also yielded plans to enhance cooperation in the healthcare sector, in addition to a report that detailed how far recent decisions made by the ministerial council have come.
On a related note, the meeting also featured discussions over how to deal with health emergencies and sustained development goals, as well as volunteerism in the healthcare realm.
Meanwhile, in a speech to kick off the meeting, the GCC General Secretariat's Assistant Secretary General for Economic and Development Affairs Abdullah bin Jumaa Al-Shibli spoke of grand GCC accomplishments in the healthcare sector.
He also revealed that a planned higher committee of GCC economic and development affairs will soon be formed, tasked with laying out strategies and plans to ensure further economic development. (end) ad.nam
