BERLIN, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- Germany has granted visiting Jordanian King Abdullah II the Peace Westphalia Prize in recognition of his efforts for achieving Middle East peace.
Addressing an award-giving ceremony, German President Joachem Gauck lauded the Jordanian King's efforts for addressing the crisis of refugees, saying that Jordan hosts large numbers of Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
He added that Jordan, which has a population of 9.5 million, is hosting more refugees than Germany.
The German leader congratulated the King on being awarded the Peace Westphalia Prize in recognition of his efforts for peace and international security and stability.
On his part, the Jordanian king appreciated the 100,000-Euro award and thanked the German government for its aid to Jordan.
He also commended Germany's interest in finding a solution to the crisis of Syrian refugees and fighting international terrorism. (end) anj.mt
