Kuwait to partake in WHO's regional meeting in Cairo

KUWAIT, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is to participate in WHO's 63rd Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean which will be held in the Egyptian capital of Cairo tomorrow.
Health Minister Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi will head a delegate to the meeting, along with 22 ministers and senior officials from different regional countries.
This year's agenda will cover scaling up family practice and setting up strategic frameworks for strengthening health laboratories and blood transfusion services.
The four-day meeting, October 2-6, will also include progress reports on: eradication of poliomyelitis; emerging and re-emerging diseases, including dengue and dengue; haemorrhagic fever; prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases; implementation of the International Health Regulations; universal health coverage and the development of a package of essential health services.
The meeting will also tackle proposed program budget for 2018-2019, the nomination of the committee's Regional Director, resolutions and decisions of regional interest adopted by the Sixty-ninth World Health Assembly and the Executive Board at its 138th and 139th Sessions.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Kuwait will present the "State of Kuwait Prize" for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. (end) zak.nfm
