OIC states urged to hold annual donor meetings

DOHA, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- The second meeting of the Islamic council for donor institutions called on the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene annual donor meetings.
The final communique of the meeting, adopted Saturday night, highlighted the need of closer cooperation among the donor agencies with a view to realizing integration of their joint aid efforts and avoiding overlapping.
The conferees agreed to set up a committee, affiliated to the council and tasked with suggesting grants and coordinating the aid projects before presenting them to the council for endorsement.
The planned committee will work to maximize benefits from the Islamic grants and improving the role of the council and its subsidiaries, according to the communique The committee will set up the necessary mechanisms and standards for future partnerships, whether bilateral or multilateral, among the Islamic donor agencies.
It is also tasked with working out a draft program for grants and cooperate with the donors and the executive bodies in collaboration with the two council members - the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), of Turkey, and the Islamic Dawaa organization, of Qatar.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq, Kuwait's Amiri Diwan Advisor who is also UN Secretary General's Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs and Chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), delivered a speech at the just-ended meeting. (pickup previous) nnd.gb
