UN establishes Board of Inquiry for humanitarian convoy incident

NEW YORK, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has decided to establish an internal Board of Inquiry to investigate the incident involving a UN-Syrian Arab Red Crescent relief humanitarian convoy, urging all parties concerned to cooperate fully with it.
The UN announced in a statement Friday that the Board will ascertain the facts of the incident and report to the SG upon the completion of its work.
In the evening of September 19, as 31 trucks delivered life-saving assistance in Urum Al-Kubra, a few kilometers west of Aleppo city, humanitarians came under fire. At least 18 people, including the head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in Urum Al-Kubra, were killed. The warehouse where supplies were being unloaded, as well as a nearby medical clinic, were also severely damaged. (end) mao.hb
