SAADNAYEL, East Lebanon, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) emphasized its keenness on providing health services to Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
KRCS Secretary General Maha Al-Barjas made this remark to KUNA, on Friday, after inspecting some joint humanitarian projects, including early detection of breast cancer, that have been carried out by KRCS and QRCS, its Qatari peer, in Beqaa Valley.
Very advanced mammograms have been used to detect any breast cancer cases among the Syrian refugees, which helped improve their wellbeing, a coordinator of multi-medical projects Bashir Al-Khatib told KUNA.
He pointed out that with the help of these devices nearly 860 people have gone under examination since the beginning of this year; 20 breast cancer cases have been detected and have received proper treatment.
In addition to health projects, KRCS and QRCS have set up a water treatment plant in Saadnayel town to provide about 40,000 liters of pure water to more than 2,000 Syrian refugee families.
In November 2015, KRCS and QRCS signed an agreement under the GCC General Secretariat umbrella to unify efforts to give life-saving assistance to Syrian refugees in Lebanon. (end) mah.nfm
