UN "concerned" over humanitarian conditions in Aleppo

GENEVA, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- The United Nations (UN) is "deeply concerned" over deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo, the UN's Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin said on Thursday.
The UN has not been able to evacuate the wounded from Aleppo, who number in the hundreds, he said, adding that there is a dearth of adequate healthcare services.
Moreover, Ezzeldin underscored the scarcity of food and doctors in the city, as all efforts to deliver relief aid have been hampered, with some 23,000 people trapped in the besieged city.
The UN official also urged all sides in the conflict to adhere to a ceasefire, as a US-Russian agreement over Syria, reached earlier this month, remains shaky. (end) ta.nam
