Kerry tells Lavrov US prepared to suspend talks with Russia over Aleppo

WASHINGTON, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State John Kerry threatened to suspend bilateral talks with Russia on Syria unless steps are taken to end "the assault on Aleppo" and restore the cessation of hostilities, he told his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in a phone call.
"The Secretary made clear the United States and its partners hold Russia responsible for this situation, including the use of incendiary and bunker buster bombs in an urban environment," a State Department release said.
Part of Kerry's warning included preparations to suspend the establishment of the US-Russian Joint Implementation Center in Syria that was agreed to be initiated if a ceasefire held for seven days.
During the call, Kerry expressed "grave concern" over "Russian and Syrian regime attacks on hospitals, the water supply network, and other civilian infrastructure in Aleppo," the statement affirmed. (end) ak.hb
