Insider attack leaves 10 ANA soldiers dead in NE Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Sep 27 (KUNA) -- At least 10 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in an insider attack at their post in Afghanistan's northeastern Kunduz province, said officials on Tuesday.
Commander of Spinzar Police Zone in Kunduz, Sher Aziz Kamawal told media that the killings took place in the ZakhelAkhundan area of the provincial capital as they were manning the check post.
According to initial reports, around 12 ANA soldiers were manning the check post and two of them allegedly drugged their own colleagues killing them all. The two soldiers escaped along with their weapons and ammunitions after the incident, said Kamawal.
Commander of the 20th ANA Division, Brig Gen. Ikramuddin Same confirming the death toll said that the incident was under investigation and it was not clear whether the soldiers were killed by their colleagues or attackers.
According to local media, spokesman for Taliban rebels Zabiullah Mujahid claimed that 13 ANA soldiers were killed in an attack by Taliban on their post in Kunduz City.
The insider attack came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan rejecting the peace dialogue offer by Afghan government. (end) sbk.mt
