Int'l Energy Forum opens in Algiers

ALGIERS, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- The 15th International Energy Forum (IEF15) kick-started in Algiers on Tuesday, with the participation of representatives from over 50 countries, including Kuwait.
Held under the slogan "Global Energy Transitions: An Enhanced Role For Energy Dialogue", the IEF15 brings together ministries of Energies of member countries, CEOs of oil and gas companies and leaders of international organizations including the International Energy Agency (IEA), Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and experts.
Addressing the forum, Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal stressed the significance of the gathering as a good opportunity for coming up with clear-cut oil visions, supporting market stability and boosting global growth rate.
He urged main energy stakeholders to reach an agreement over production levels in order to avert further serious reflections that could threat oil industry and draw global economy to a long phase of recession and slowdown.
He also called for developing stupendous global potentials of renewable energy so as to ensure sustainable economic growth and serious and gradual energy transition.
Kuwait is participating in the forum with a high-level delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Acting Oil Minister Anas Al-Saleh.
The two-day forum tackles developing all forms of energies, including renewable energies, and discussing the oil markets outlook, the stability challenge and natural gas.
The program of IEF15 focuses on several sessions covering the most critical issues in global energy dialogue including energy governance, sustainable energy and enhancing energy security.
Two round-tables will be held Wednesday on access to energy as a key factor for human development, the role of technology in strengthening energy security. (end) fz.mt
