UK Foreign Secretary: Turkey plays vital role for Europe

ANKARA, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said that Turkey played a vital role for Europe, expressing gratitude to Turkish government and people for their generosity and hospitality in hosting refugees on its soil.
"The partnership between Turkey and Great Britain is important for Europe, and not only for the two countries," noting that his country will continue supporting Ankara's efforts for accession into the European Union, Johnson stressed in a joint press conference in Ankara on Monday night with Turkish EU Affairs Minister Omer Celik.
"We are happy in the United Kingdom to be one of the biggest recipients of Turkish goods," Johnson told reporters.
He said he saw a new partnership between the two countries following the Brexit vote, where the United Kingdom opted to leave the European Union and in which Johnson played a key role.
Celik asserted that his country would continue with greater determination its fight against "terrorism" and terrorist organizations.
Boris Johnson has met with Syrian refugees during the first day of his official visit to Turkey.
After arriving in Gaziantep, the British Foreign Secretary toured a nursery and spoke to families at the Nizip refugee camp in the southeast.
Johnson was also escorted to a site where UN aid trucks are stationed, before he watched a group of Syrians training in detecting and disposing of improvised explosive devices.(end).
