KUWAIT, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarallah said Monday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs scaled up lobbying for Kuwait candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
"As part of the continuous contacts with friendly countries, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has recently held several consultations on the matter in Geneva," Al-Jarallah said.
He made the press remarks during a celebration at China embassy this evening to celebrate the National Day of the People's Republic of China.
"Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled held talks separately with representatives of more than 30 countries, including China - a UNSC permanent member, in a bid to winning their backing for Kuwait's candidacy as well as promoting the bilateral ties with these countries," Al-Jarallah revealed.
"The Ministry intensified its efforts on the regional and international scales for securing a UNSC seat with a view to better serving the fair causes of the Arab and Muslim nations," he pointed out.
Regarding the Kuwaiti-Chinese ties, Al-Jarallah said they are exemplary and constantly growing in all fields thanks to the close coordination and visit exchanges.
Kuwait is one of the leading investors in China, the world's second biggest economy, he said, noting that the Kuwaiti investments are focused on the energy, communication and infrastructure sectors.
Al-Jarallah recalled the Chinese support for Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion in 1990, saying that this stance will always be remembered by the Kuwaiti leaders and people.
On his part, China Ambassador to Kuwait Wang Di said that the bilateral ties have grown remarkably over the last 45 years since the two countries established their diplomatic ties.
The two countries maintained fruitful cooperation based on reciprocity and mutual support, and provided to be all-weather friends, Wang added. (end)
