IFJ condemns killing of journalist in Jordan

BRUSSELS, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ)) condemned Monday the killing of journalist Nahed Hattar, in Amman yesterday.
The journalist, aged 56, was accused in August of insulting religion and inciting sedition following a caricature he posted on his Facebook, noted the Brussels-based IFJ in a statement.
"We strongly condemn this awful crime and stand by the freedom of expression and the right to dissent in Jordan as everywhere in the world. We urge the authorities to protect critical voices in the country so that this outrageous killing never happens again," said IFJ President, Philippe Leruth, in a statement. (end) nk.mt
