India launches eight satellites in a single mission

NEW DELHI, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday launched eight satellites using its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV C 35) from the Sriharikota launchpad located in the south Indian state off Andhra Pradesh.
The Press trust of India said that the ISRO succeeded in launching three from India, one each from US and Canada and three from Algeria.
The launch vehicle succeeded in placing the primary satellite SCATSAT-1 which is aimed at weather forecasting, cyclone detection and tracking was placed in a Polar Sunsynchronous Orbit.
The PSLV C 35 is expected to complete its longest mission in two hours and 15 minutes by placing the remaining seven satellites in a different orbit.
The ISRO had started countdown two days back.
The ISRO would achieve a milestone by successfully accomplishing its mission of placing satellites in two orbits for the first time and joining the European Space Agency which accomplished a similar mission using its Vega rocket. (end) atk.rk
