Kuwait keen to solve regional issues -- Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled

NEW YORK, Sept 25 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait' First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has affirmed Kuwaitآ’s active international involvement aimed at solving regional and global conflicts, which have political and security ramifications on Gulf States' stability.
Kuwait, through its participation in international conferences, is exerting efforts to seek solutions to regional and international issues, especially regional conflicts which have impact on security of the Gulf countries.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, in a statement to KUNA and Kuwait TV late Saturday, said the delegation of Kuwait to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) 71st session had active contributions, foremost by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who participated in a leadersآ’ summit on refugees on September 20.
He said His Highness the Amir reiterated Kuwaitآ’s continued support to the global humanitarian efforts with the ultimate objective of alleviating suffering of people suffering from conflicts around the world.
"The speech of His Highness the Amir reaffirms the role of Kuwait to help refugees and displaced, and shows how it is important that the international community exert efforts to end the conflicts permanently," said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.
His Highness the Amir also highlighted Kuwaitآ’s financial contributions to the refugees and internally displaced people in different parts of the conflict, including in Syria.
His Highness the Amir also met with US Secretary of State John Kerry and discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said the representative of His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, underlined Kuwaitآ’s unshaken cooperation with the UN, the latest was the approval of the sustainable development goals and the Paris climate change agreement.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and the latter commended Kuwaitآ’s leading role at the regional and international levels.
Ban said this role helped millions of people suffering from conflicts or disasters globally.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said he chaired a coordination meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), where ministers discussed terrorism, the Palestinian cause, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
He also co-chaired the Arab-African partnership coordination committee meeting to prepare for the 4th Arab-African summit, due in Equatorial Guinea next November.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said he held 33 bilateral meetings with officials from UN member countries to discuss a host of issues listed on the agenda of the UNGA.
He also highlighted ministerial meetings between the GCC on one side, and the US, Britain, France and Russia on the other.
"These countries, through their Security Council memberships, have a role to solve issues of concern to the Arab region like Yemen, Syria, Libya, Iraq and terrorism," said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled. (end) mao.rk
