UAE completes 70 pct of nuclear plant - agency

DUBAI, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced Saturday the Barakah nuclear power plant project is currently 70 percent complete, official media reported.
"We at ENEC are proud of the progress we have made in the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program," Mohamed Al-Hammadi, ENEC's CEO, said in a statement, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
ENEC is committed to delivering safe, clean, efficient, and reliable nuclear energy, Al-Hammadi said, pointing out the nuclear corporation's substantial progress towards achieving its goal at the Barakah facility.
"All four units at Barakah are some 70 percent complete, an amazing achievement, considering that we started construction a mere four years ago," he said.
Al-Hammadi also reiterated ENEC's continued investment in the development of a knowledge-based industry in the UAE through a range of educational initiatives, and support of upgrading local industrial products and services to international nuclear quality standards. (end) smr.ma
