Oxford University salutes Kuwaiti culture through honoring of poet - Info Min.

KUWAIT, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- The University of Oxford has paid tribute to Kuwaiti culture through its honoring of famed poet Abdulaziz Al-Babtain, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah said on Saturday.
In a statement to KUNA, Sheikh Salman, who is also Chairman of the National Council of Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), said that the honor conferred upon Al-Babtain is a testament to his unbridled devotion to further the Arabic language.
Speaking on the cultural scene in Kuwait, Sheikh Salman noted the incessant support given by the country's leadership, as he underscored the plethora of accomplishments that Al-Babtain had amassed in the realm of Arabic literature.
Moreover, he pointed to a cultural institute christened after Al-Babtain as a bastion of culture and literature, adding that the honor bestowed upon Al-Babtain proves that Kuwait deserves to be the capital of Islamic culture for the year 2016.
He also urged youth to follow in Al-Babtain's footsteps in a country with a rich and vibrant culture and history.
On Thursday, the University of Oxford conferred the honor of "Laudian Professor of Arabic" upon Al-Babtain, the highlight of a career dedicated to developing the Arabic language. (end) amh.nam
