TUNIS, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit has called for further support to the budget of the League's Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
ALECSO offers a model for the joint Arab action and has realized a multitude of achievements in education and culture, Abul-Gheit said Friday in a press statement on the sidelines of his visit to the organization's new premises in Tunisia.
Abul-Gheit underlined ALECSO's significant role and efforts to promote education in the Arab World, urging the media to shed more light on that "bright image of the joint Arab action." The Arab countries have to realize these achievements and build on them, as well as honoring their financial commitments to the organization's budget, he said.
According to the League's chief, only 40 percent of contributions to ALECSO's budget has been paid.
During his visit to Tunisia, Abul-Gheit will have talks with President Beji Caid Essebsi and Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui on boosting bilateral ties.
Abul-Gheit arrived in Tunisia late on Thursday invited by the Jhinaoui ahead of the country's presidency of the 146th Session of the Arab League's Foreign Council (Foreign Ministers) that kicks off in Cairo on September 5. (end) ksj.msa
