White House hails first scheduled US flight to Cuba in more than 50 years

WASHINGTON, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- For the first time in more than 50 years, a scheduled flight on Wednesday arrived in Cuba from the United States.
The historic JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Santa Clara, Cuba, builds on President Barack Obama's promise to re-engage with Cuba -- arriving just one year after Obama formally re-established relations between the United States and Cuba, the White House announced.
"This flight is an example of progress that has been made in the normalization process between our two nations and will continue to advance the President's policy," the White House statement said. (end) rm.bs
