Truce in Syria's Homs district

AMMAN, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- Governor of the Syrian Governorate of Homs declared on Wednesday that the government and opposition gunmen entrenched in Al-Waar district had reached a truce accord.
Quoted by the official news agency, SANA, Tala Al-Barazi said the cease-fire agreement was worked out as a prelude to effect a previously-reached accord to demilitarize the area.
The truce is effective for 25 days as off today.
The government and the opposition groups in the district agreed in December on pullout of 720 gunmen and their families out of the besieged region.
According to opposition sources, the district notables proposed withdrawal of 1,100 gunmen with their families, opening the roads and reinstating State employees in the area.
Elsewhere, reports indicated at current talks to enforce a truce for the Damascus suburbs of Al-Muaddamia, envisaging guns' handover, reinstating the government institutions, along with the police deployment in the region.
The Syrian regime had worked similar understandings with the opposition in other regions. (end) tk.rk
