Conference calls for boosting security to face terrorism targeting aviation

RIYADH, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- Participants in an international aviation conference have called for improving States' security capacities to face terrorist threats.
The call came in resolutions declared at end of the international ministerial aviation conference on Wednesday, capping its works that got underway on Monday.
The "Riyadh declaration for aviation security and services" called for implementing all international treaties related to navigation sector, namely those endorsed by the Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and urged for establishing a regional group to boost security aviation cooperation among countries in the Middle East.
The conferees discussed threats and challenges facing the international civil aviation, namely terrorism, affirming the need for bolstering States' capacities to face such threats They encouraged facilitating information exchanges regarding cyber threats and called for greater measures to safeguard the air navigation.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, IACO chairman, had told the conferees that terrorist incidents involving planes constitute security and safety threats that warrant collective action.
Representatives of 54 states, international aviation organizations and 446 representatives of companies and air businesses, took part in the convention. (end) yms.rk
