Defense Min. attends Czech war veterans event

BRAGUE, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense has recently taken part in a ceremony in the Czech Republic marking the 25th anniversary of Kuwait's Liberation war, in which Czech forces participated.
The ceremony was organized by the War Veterans Department at the Czech Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces, the Kuwaiti embassy in Brague said in a statement on Tuesday.
The event, held in the city of Liberec, featured a military parade for the countries that partook in the Liberation war.
According to the embassy statement, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Czech Military Forces addressed the ceremony appreciating the Kuwaiti military delegation's attendance.
A veteran Czech who took part in the war said that arrangements for the event had been made almost a year earlier.
In an address to the event, Kuwaiti retired Major General Saber Al-Swidan appreciated the Czech role in the Liberation war through a chemical warfare unit, despite the geographical distance and the cultural differences between the two countries.
Kuwait's ambassador to the Republic Ayman Al-Adsani, stressed Kuwait's gratitude for the Czech participation in the war.
An international US-led coalition comprising about 960,000 troops from 30 countries launched a war which liberated Kuwait from the brutal Iraqi invasion of 1990, that left huge devastations and a major environment mayhem. (end) amj.maa.msa
