Japan braces for another powerful typhoon

TOKYO, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- Powerful typhoon Lionrock approached the eastern coast of Japan on Monday, with the Japan Meteorological Agency warning of possible heavy rains, high waves and strong winds.
As of 3 p.m. (0600 GMT), the season's 10th typhoon was moving over the Pacific Ocean about 330 km southeast of the Hachijojima island, south of Tokyo, at a speed of around 25 km per hour, according to the weather agency.
Typhoon Lionrock is forecast to approach the eastern and northern parts of the country including Tokyo by Tuesday, and there is a possibility to make landfall on the northeastern region.
It was with an atmospheric pressure of 950 hectopascals at its center and gusts of up to 216 kph.
Meanwhile, the government set up a liaison unit at Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's office on Monday to deal with the typhoon. (end) mk.tg
