Al-Abadi pledges to liberate Mosul from IS

BAGHDAD, Aug 28 (KUNA) -- Iraq's Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi pledged Sunday to liberate Mosul city, northern Iraq, from the so-called Islamic State (IS) in a clean battle and minimum casualties.
The Iraqi government seeks to provide all necessary requirements that secure a national victory over IS in Mosul, taking into consideration preserving locals' lives, and protecting them against any possible danger resulted from the military operations, Saad Al-Hudaithi, Iraqi Premier's spokesman, said in a statement.
The government also seeks to provide all humanitarian needs and basic necessities for refugees from the city, Al-Hudaithi said, noting that 25,000 residential units are to be constructed to accommodate Nineveh refugees, in addition to allocating USD 7.8 million to build shelters and relief centers for the refugees.
Meanwhile, the joint operations command, under supervision of commander-in-chief of armed forces seeks as much as possible, to protect the soldiers' lives, residents' properties, and the city's infrastructure, the spokesman said.
The military plans are based on measures and tactics that keeps the maximum number of Mosul's residents inside their homes during the military operations, he said, adding that this would minimize the number of refugees from the city, and protect their lives from IS's aggression. (end) ahh.ma
