Iran produces 10 tons of heavy water - IAEO spokesman

TEHRAN, Aug 28 (KUNA) -- Iran said Sunday it was producing 20 tons of heavy waters per year, of them 200 kilograms were used locally and the rest were exported.
European countries are the biggest customers of the Iranian heavy water, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO), said in a statement.
He said most of the developing countries could not use this type of nuclear-related material.
Kamalvandi said negotiations to sell 39 tons of heavy water to Russia were at their final stages, and the payment would be in Euro. He added that the US paid in the Euro for its heavy water purchase.
He said last year nuclear agreement with the P5+1 created "relative calm," and opened new channels for Iranian products.
He said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has instructed the IAEO to finance two new nuclear reactors.
Kamalvandi meanwhile said an Iranian delegation travelled to China two weeks ago to discuss the reconstruction of the Arak reactor.
Iran has been opening up for economic, trade and energy relations with Western countries and companies following the conclusion of the nuclear agreement with the P5+1 group, which consisted of the five UN Security Council (UNSC) permanent members plus Germany.
The nuclear agreement, which ended a 12-year standoff, downgrades Iran's nuclear capabilities in exchange of easing of international sanctions against the Islamic Republic. (end) fz.bs
