ROME, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- More new bodies were recovered from under the rubble in the ill-fated Italian town of Amatrice Saturday, raising death toll of the devastating earthquake to 290, the Italian Civil Protection Department said.
The department said in a statement 230 people were killed in Amatrice alone - the most devastated - while 11 in the town Accumoli in Lazio and 49 in Marche.
It added that all bodies have been fished out from underneath the rubbles of the collapsed buildings.
It said there were three British nationals, two Romanians and a Spaniard among the survivors. The number of injured was 388 people while 2,500 people were left homeless.
The department said up to 1,332 aftershocks were reported, the strongest was today morning measuring 4.0 degrees.
Meanwhile, the Italian government announced Saturday a day of mourning nationwide with flags flown at half mast. The Italian President and Prime Minister would be among participants of an official funeral for the victims of the 6.2-magnitude earthquake. (pick up previous).
