Italy quake death toll up to 267 people

ROME, Aug 26 (KUNA) -- The death toll in the destructive 6.2 magnitude earthquake, which hit the central region of Italy, had increased to 267 people, said Italy's Civil Protection Department Friday.
Department spokesperson Immacolata Postiglione told the press that there were 207 dead bodies discovered in Amatrice town alone, adding that the towns of Accumoli and Lazio had 11 and 49 dead people each.
Some 387 people were injured in the earthquake while 238 people were rescued from under the rubbles.
As many as 3,000 individuals were left homeless after the quake destroyed their dwellings at several towns affected by the earthquake.
The Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology registered some 57 aftershocks and tremors from midnight till 6:30 a.m. local-time in Italy. The total number of aftershocks have reached 928 since the great quake hit the central region of the country. (end) mn.gta
