Italy quake death toll tops 250 people

ROMA, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The death toll of the magnitude-6-2 earthquake which struck central Italy yesterday rose further to 250, Italian Civil Protection Dept. announced on Thursday.
The figure includes 193 deaths in Amatrice town and 11 in the nearby Accumoli, spokesperson of the agency said in a night update.
The death toll is espected to rise further as rescue efforts continue and many of the injured are in critical condition, she said, noting that the quake destroyed homes, schools and historical churches in the area. (pickup previous) mn.gb
