CAIRO, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The Arab League applauded on Thursday establishing an Arab Child Parliament to be hosted by Al-Sharjah, a testament to abiding by the international charter for child rights.
The remarks were made by Arab League Secretary General Assistant Ambassador Hosam Zaki after a meeting between Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abu Al-Gheit with hosting committee members of the Arab Child Parliament.
Zaki said the Arab League chief has completed legal procedures regarding the formation of the Arab Child Parliament and is ready to be submitted to the upcoming Arab League summit.
The ambassador added that such positive step would be encouraged, noting financial and security difficulties facing the Arab children in general in a number of Arab countries.
Zaki said encouraging children to discuss and reach an agreement would help contribute to shaping democracy.
For her part, the head of the hosting committee Khawla Abdulrahman said she delivered a letter from Al-Sharja Ruler Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qasemi, highlighting the work of the committee and the establishment of such parliament. (end) mfm.mb
