Russia concerned over Turkey-Syria cross-border hostilities

MOSCOW, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- The Russian Federation stressed the need of addressing the crisis along the Syrian-Turkish borders on the basis of the rules of international law and through dialogue among all concerned parties, including the Kurds.
The dispute in Syria must be solved on the basis of Geneva Declaration, singed on June 30, 2012, and the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the relevant resolution of the Syria Support Group (ISSG), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Russia is deeply concerned over the developments along the borders between Turkey and Syria, which could result in civilian casualties and escalate the ethnic tensions between the Arab and Kurdish people in the region, according to the statement.
The statement followed the Turkish military incursion into Syria to track down the militants belonging to the so-called Islamic State militants and Kurdistan Workers Party. The Syrian regime denounced the Turkish move as a violation of its sovereignty. (end) as.gb
