15 casualties in AUAF attack in Kabul

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- At least one student was killed and 14 other people were injured in the ongoing gun and bomb attack targeting the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) in the capital city of Kabul on Wednesday night.
According to initial reports, a car bomb had exploded outside a school in the Darul Aman area of the central capital Kabul in the jurisdiction of the 6th police district for the blind next door before at least one attacker fired at the university campus from that school building.
Mark English, a AUAF student, told media that the security forces had arrived on the scene soon after the attack began. Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said security forces entered the campus and "are trying to search for the terrorists." He further said that police are also trying to evacuate the campus. The US military is also assisting the Afghan forces who responded to the attack.
Dozens of students and staff including foreigners are believed to be trapped inside the university building.
The AUAF, opened in 2006, has over 1,700 students enrolled in the campus. (pickup previous) sbk.gb
