Coalition in Yemen says abiding by UN resolutions to prevent arms smuggling

RIYADH, July 29 (KUNA) -- The Saudi-led Arab coalition said Friday it was not imposing a siege or economic embargo on any part of Yemen, but it was only abiding by UN resolutions aimed at preventing smuggling of arms and ammunition.
The coalition, backing the legitimate leadership in Yemen, regretted media reports which quoted some NGOs like Doctors Without Borders and Amnesty International which played down the coalition's efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to the Yemeni people.
The coalition, in a statement cited by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), said it has always been complying with UN Security Council resolution 2216 ever since "the illegitimate coup" took place in Yemen.
The health conditions in Yemen tops the coalition's priorities, it said, and the alliance had dropped more than 40 tons of medical supplies on Taez and these supplies were taken to hospitals by all possible meamsn including animals.
The coalition was also cooperating with the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) for Yemen in Djibouti to facilitate delivery of humanitarian supplies, goods and oil by-products to the Yemeni people.
The coalition, UNVIM and the legitimate government of Yemen are issuing license for commercial ships to sail to Yemen, it said.
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is not related to shortage of food, oil or goods, but the occupation of Ansarullah rebeles of government institutions including airports and ports, it said.
The coalition said the rebels were selling oil products, relief supplies and goods in black markets in order to finance their activities. It called for the liberation of all areas and retrun of legitimate leadership in Yemen. (end) od.bs
