Security forces kill 57 insurgents in Afghanistan - Min.

ISLAMABAD, July 29 (KUNA) -- At least 57 insurgents including fighters belonging to so-called Islamic State were killed and scores other were wounded and arrested in fresh offensive in different provinces of Afghanistan, said Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Friday.
A statement by MoD said that the security forces conducted fresh offensive in Nangarhar, Laghman, Parwan, Paktia Paktika, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Kandahar, Farah, Jawzjan, Kunduz, Badakhshan and Helmand provinces.
Security forces targeted militants' hideouts in Achin, Kot district and used artillery against the outlawed group.
A huge amount of weapons were also captured in the offensive, said the MoD. It confirmed that at least 57 fighters and two security forces were killed during the offensive.
The offensive came days after United States military announced that it is adding troops in eastern Afghanistan for offensives against so-called Islamic State. (end) sbk.bs
