France says aid must rapidly reach beleaguered civilians in Aleppo

PARIS, July 29 (KUNA) -- France on Friday called for rapid dispatch of humanitarian aid to the beleaguered Syrian city of Aleppo and expressed dissatisfaction at the Damascus regime's declaration about opening safe passageways for civilians.
The French Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement that Paris is deeply worried at conditions' deterioration in Aleppo, North Syria, noting that the international law stipulates dispatch of relief supplies to the besieged citizens, hastily.
He described an "unworkable solution" the regime declaration about setting up "humanitarian passageways" to evacuate the city eastern sector of the residents.
Aid must reach the Aleppo residents' houses so they may not venture out and risk their lives amid intensive air strikes, he said, also stressing that the bombing and artillery attacks on the city must cease to ensure hand-over of the necessities to the civilians.
Damascus and its ally, Moscow, declared on Thursday opening four secured alleyways in Aleppo to allow civilians flee the city and gunmen to hand over their guns in exchange for amnesty.
Eastern Aleppo, inhabited by some 200,000 civilians, has been encircled by the Syrian government forces since July 17. Neighborhoods in this sector have been subjected to intensive bombardment. (end) mmb.rk
