Unemployment rate in EU lowest since 2009

BRUSSELS, July 29 (KUNA) -- The EU unemployment rate was at 8.6 percent in June 2016, the lowest rate recorded in the EU since March 2009, said Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, on Friday.
The euro area unemployment rate was 10.1 percent in June 2016, compared to May 2016 and down from 11.0 percent in June 2015. This remains the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since July 2011, it noted.
Eurostat estimated that 20.986 million men and women in the EU, of whom 16.269 million were in the euro area, were unemployed in June 2016.
Compared with June 2015, unemployment fell by 2.114 million in the EU and by 1.363 million in the euro area.
Meanwhile, Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 0.2 percent in July, up from 0.1 percent in June, according to Eurostat. (end) nk.gta
