IS "don't represent Islam" - White House

WASHINGTON, July 28 (KUNA) -- The US said on Thursday that the so-called Islamic State (IS) "don't represent Islam" after Pope Francis' remarks a day ago that the group is involved in a "war of interests" not religion.
"It's quite consistent with the position of the Obama administration and what President Obama himself has articulated, which is, it's a fantasy for ISIL (IS) to suggest that they represent Islam in a fight against the world," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.
"They represent a perverted nihilistic world view that promises nothing but chaos and violence.
"President Obama, I think like Pope Francis continues to be confident that while that threat needs to be taken seriously, that the rest of the world including the Muslim world, will prevail over the deeply dark violent vision that is put coward by ISIL," he stated.
The remarks follow a series of terrorist attacks that killed dozens of people across Germany and France, most recently a Catholic priest two days ago in northern France by an IS sympathizer. (end) sd.hb
