Japan PM says new stimulus package worth USD 266 billion

TOKYO, July 27 (KUNA) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday his government will compile a fresh economic stimulus package worth more than JPY 28 trillion (USD 266.3 billion) to boost the sluggish economy.
"We are planning to draw up the package next week, which will contain investment in future. We hope to take a dynamic step toward a new agricultural policy," Abe said in a speech in the southwestern Japanese city of Fukuoka.
The stimulus package will include JPY 13 trillion (USD 123.6 billion) in government spending, according to the premier. With the stimulus measures, the government is expected to improve infrastructure nationwide, including high-speed railways and ports, to attract foreign tourists, and to promote agriculture exports from rural areas. Meanwhile, Abe also affirmed that Japan aims for the early entry into force of the US-led Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, which involves 12 countries -- the US, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Peru.
The 12 economies account for almost 40 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) and about one-third of all world trade. (end) mk.tg
