Reported destruction of Aleppo hospitals by Assad regime "deeply concerning" - US

WASHINGTON, July 25 (KUNA) -- Reports that the last hospitals remaining in Aleppo, Syria, have been destroyed by the Assad regime are "gut-wrenching" and "deeply, deeply concerning," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Monday.
"We condemn in the strongest terms the effort by anybody to target medical facilities that treat civilians," Earnest said during a briefing. "It is completely unacceptable and contravenes just about every international agreement that applies in these situations." There has been a specific strategy carried out by the Assad regime to use the country's military might and attack innocent people, Earnest said.
"That is why we are redoubling our efforts to try to get the Russians and the Assad regime to live up to the commitments that they made in the context of the cessation of hostilities," he said. (end) rm.bs
