27th Arab Summit kicks off Monday

NOUAKCHOTT, July 25 (KUNA) -- The 27th Arab summit kicks off here on Monday led by the Mauritanian President Mohammad Ould Abdulaziz.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and a number of Arab leaders have arrived in Nouakchott International Airport Sunday to attend the summit.
The situation in Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen as well as the Palestinian cause in addition to counter-terrorism efforts are several topics expected to be highlighted in the meeting.
The summit will also discuss interference in Arab affairs by Iran and Turkey, where Iran has been occupying three UAE islands, and the Turkish military also occupied part of northern Iraq.
The meeting will also discuss the Nouakchott declaration, in addition to economic decisions that have been submitted by the ministers to the top leaders.
The 27th Arab summit was originally set to be held in Morocco, but the Kingdom apologized for not hosting the major annual event due to lack of "objective circumstances that guarantee a successful Arab summit." Mauritania is becoming host for the Arab gathering for the first time since it joined the Arab League in 1973. (end) kns.mys
